DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (MECHANICAL ENGINEERING)
Synopsis
The School of Mechanical Engineering doctoral program was first introduced in June 1999. It is intended for graduates with an appropriate master’s degree who wish to pursue research towards the award of a PhD. Academics and experts usually lead research supervision for the PhD students in their respective fields of specialisation.
PEO1: Experts who have advanced knowldedge with practical skills capable of using advanced numeracy and technical skills in meeting local and global demands with excellent novelty.
- Assess and justify the scholarly advanced knowledge in the area of research by generating substantial and original contributions to a field and/or practice (1)
- Evaluate numerical data related to engineering practises by integrating critical thinking and computational skills (2)
- Adapt practical skills using appropriate digital tools and techniques in solving relevant current engineering problems (3)
- Adapt and design suitable digital and analytical techniques to research problems (7)
PEO2: Experts who integrate communication and interpersonal skills using advanced digital technologies when engaging individual research with relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain cogent communication in the field/s and interact with specialist and general audience (6)
PEO3: Experts who display personal skill with entrepreneurial mindset in elevating the quality of life.
- Advocate commitment to lifelong learning and personal development (8)
PEO4: Experts with leadership quality adhere to ethics, values, attitudes and profesionalism towards sustainable development.

Entry Requirement
- Candidates with a Master’s degree in engineering or in one of the physical sciences from a recognised university or other higher learning institutions recognised by the UiTM Senate.
- Candidates interested in applying for admission must also submit a research proposal in the intended area of study.
- Candidates have to attend an interview, which will determine their suitability in the proposed area of research.
